Former Liverpool teammate an ‘amazing man and player’
Trent Alexander-Arnold has described his former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota as “someone who lit up a room”. Liverpool forward Jota died along with his brother, Andre Silvé, after a car accident in Spain on Thursday.
Alexander-Arnold is at the Club World Cup in the United States with Real Madrid having left Anfield at the end of their title-winning 2024-25 season. He spoke to Dazn after Madrid’s quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund in New York.
Continue reading...Liverpool players and staff joined the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva for their funeral in the siblings’ hometown of Gondomar. The funeral came after a public wake on Friday at the Capela da Ressurreição in Gondomar, attended by the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the prime minister, Luís Montenegro. Jota and Silva died in the early hours of Thursday morning after their car left the road and burst into flames in Zamora, north-west Spain, while driving towards Santander to catch a ferry back to England.
